Hillary supporters Patty and Ray Koch positioned themselves across the street from the Obama rally, holding up a five-foot sign and chanting “Hillary, Hillary, Hillary”. When questioned about why they were supporting Clinton for president, they explained that they felt she was truly the best person for the job, that she already had experience in the White House, and that she would make a good team with her husband, Bill.
“It’s all right for Bush’s daddy (former president George H.W. Bush) to help him, why can’t Bill help Hillary?” asked Mrs. Koch. “It’s going to take a Clinton to clean up after a Bush again.” The Koches, both of whom are learning-disabled, also feel that Hillary will do more to help the handicapped than any other candidate. They urge you to vote Hillary for president.
Come again?
I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.” — Hillary Clinton, 17 March, 2008
After Clinton’s speech news footage of the visit emerged. There were no snipers at all on the tape; Hillary hugged children and joined in a concert with Sheryl Crow. She later apologized for her “minor blip”.

Rory Kennedy
On April 5 a crowd of over 100 filled Catherine Street in downtown Milford to show their support for presidential candidate Barack Obama. Attendees ranged from five years old up to senior citizens, and a few Clinton supporters staked out the opposite street corner in front of Hare Hollow.
The rally opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by introductions by alternate Democratic delegate Martha Lorin Walker. Sean Strub introduced keynote speaker Rory Kennedy, daughter of Robert Kennedy and an award-winning documentarian.
During her 45-minute speech, Kennedy spoke about her father, whom she had never known, and how people would come up to her and tell her of how he had inspired them. She said that she had never felt that inspiration until Barack Obama came along. She emphasized the fact that now is not the time for “identity politics”- voting for a candidate because of race or sex. Kennedy also said that we need an inspirational leader, to restore America to greatness, and that she feels Obama is that person.
Ryan Jameson, a DVHS senior, also spoke, along with Missi Strub and Lackawanna county commissioners Cory O’Brian and Mike Warsho. O’Brian stressed that Obama’s campaign is about change, and Warsho added that Obama was widely supported abroad, and that he was truly a “candidate for the world”.
The rally closed with Walker singing Billie Holliday’s “God Bless the Child”.
Pike County for Obama and Pike County for Hillary headquarters are both located on the second floor of the Old Milford Schoolhouse on Harford Street, across from the post office.
